Frequently Asked Questions

How are you different than a local nursery?

For starters, our selection is curated to long-blooming, enduring plants that return each year, so our selection isn't as broad. Most importantly - everything is grown here on the farm, and the majority of what we grow is from seed. That means we control the conditions that the plant grows in from the day it germinates - no chemicals are used at any stage of the process.

Do I have to come to the farm to buy from you?

No! We ship Seeds and Tiny Plants across Canada. If you want to make a trip to the farm from May-September, we have a selection of Big Bloomer pots, that we don’t ship. The benefit of visiting us, is that you can see over 10,000 square feet of plants in our garden - inspiration!

Do I have to pre-order?

No, you don’t have to. We do always have inventory. We grow what we sell so we can’t promise we’ll have your favourite when you want it. We strongly recommend pre-ordering for May pick-up because that is a very busy time. If you see something you like, you can reserve it online and pick it up at your convenience.

Do I have to be a member?

No, you don’t. Members get a great discount - if you plan on ordering more than $100 worth of plants buying a membership is a great way to save. For a $100 membership you’ll receive a $115 Gift Card and a $240 Gift Card with a $200 membership. Members also receive 10% off all orders, all season long.

Limited Memberships will go on sale for the 2025 season in January.

Why should I order seeds from you?

We started out with a commitment to seeds, but it is a learning experience. Not all seeds are equal - some are treated for advanced or ease of germination, and/or disease resistance. We have tried many and curated the best, based on our experience.

Additionally, we tested over 20 seed ‘vessels’ and think we’ve landed on the best. We ship our seeds in violet glass jars that keep out UV rays - and rodents. We also designed our own labels for these jars to make it easy to use them for garden planning. Beautiful and Functional.

What is your plant classification about?

We have placed our inventory of plants into 3 groups: Foundation, Core and Select. This is to make it easier for new gardeners to choose their plants.

Foundation: these are long-blooming, low maintenance plants that are perfect for those looking for a carefree garden, and don’t want to worry too much about bloom times.

Core: most of our plants fall into this category, mainly because they have more limited bloom time, are not as reliable as a Foundation plant, or require some maintenance.

Select: This category of plants are either very short bloomers, or require some maintenance. If you’re just starting out, we don’t recommend you start here, but they’re a very gratifying group that we think are worth the effort.

Why do you sell plants in fabric bags?

We spent a lot of time upfront looking for non-plastic options for our plants. Fabric pots were the best retail friendly option. We settled on Root Pouch bags. They’re made from recycled water bottles and have a great structure. Plants don’t become root bound in these breathable bags, resulting in healthier plants.

Update: In 2025, we’ll continue to use fabric bags for our Big Bloomers, but we’ll also be offering boxes for our Tiny Plants and Starter Plants. These are fully compostable and easy to remove.

What are Tiny Plants, Standard Plants and Big Bloomers?

A ‘Tiny Plant’ is a 2-inch plant that can be planted directly in the garden, and will grow incredibly fast - or potted up indoors in early spring, for a larger garden plant. They’re an excellent way to get your garden off to a cost-effective start.

A ‘Standard Plant’ is a 6-inch plant that hasn’t yet bloomed, but will get you off to a great start. It will bloom this season, but at pick-up it’s in the pre-blooming stage. This means more blooms in your garden, when the flowers emerge.

A ‘Big Bloomer’ is a plant that is in full bloom if you want immediate impact from your perennial plant.

Can I dig plants?

Yes! We grow plants to blooming size that we’ll dig right from our raised gardens to be planted in yours. Not only do you get to visualize the plant, it saves on potting up and pots so it’s more economical. Also, Dig Days are a lot of fun!

Our 2025 dig gardens will have both a dedicated field area, as well as in raised beds for smaller Dig Plants. .
